Electric Automobile and Plug-In Electric-Biodiesel Hybrid Pledge

Only your name, city, and state will be presented to the automakers and the news media. You are not required to submit your phone number or email address, but if you do, it will not be provided to the automakers or the news media. Any optional information collected will only be used to contact the pledge "signors" for the purpose of telling them ways they can help the electric car movement. It will not be used for marketing businesses.

The news media includes the alternative press and certain environmental groups that actively make press releases in support of electric cars. These two groups will be useful in educating the public (which include all branches of government) of the demand for electric vehicles and of the value of electric vehicles.

I prefer to refuel my automobile primarily with electricity from my own home and/or business. Not only is such refueling more convienent than reliance on fossil fuel stations, it also gives me the option of using electricity derived from 100% renewable energy sources. This is because such electricity may often be obtained via a renewable electricity program from my local electric utility, or indirectly via the purchase of green tags.

I understand that plug-in electric automobiles require far less maintainance and have lower energy ("fuel") costs than fossil fuel dependent automobiles. Even when the cost of battery packs are included, the total cost of ownership for electric automobiles are less (or at least no more) than for gasoline automobiles, according to reports issued by Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and other organizations.

I understand that a pure plug-in electric automobile with at least a 96.5 kilometer (60 mile) range may initially cost substantially more than traditional fossil fuel dependent automobiles. I realize that a plug-in electric-biofuel (such as electric-biodiesel) automobile with at least a 32.2 kilometer (20 mile) all-electric range may cost substantially more than the non-plug-in hybrid automobiles currently on the market. Being fully aware of the above, by signing this petition I pledge that I STRONGLY PREFER for my next NEW automobile purchase to be ONLY a pure PLUG-IN electric automobile or a PLUG-IN electric-biofuel automobile. While waiting for an electric automobile, I will TRY to refrain from buying a NEW fossil fueled automobile (though I might buy a USED one).
