Go Metric bumper sticker

In support of the Metric System, THE international system of measurement, all of the pages in this website have been revised (as of 2003 October 28) to show all measurements in metric units, with US Customary units (which are a form of the old British Imperial System of Units) shown only secondarily in parentheses. Renewable Electricity Solutions urges all USA businesses and residents, particularly renewable energy businesses, to adopt the metric system. For information about the need for the USA to adopt the metric system, and tools to aid the transistion, visit the USA Adoption of Metric System Needed webpage. That webpage also includes a link to proposals to reform the Gregorian calendar.

This web site sells electric scooters, photovoltaic (solar electric power) modules/panels, wind generators, micro-hydro generators, deep cycle batteries, charge controllers, DC to AC power inverters, energy efficient appliances, energy efficient DC lighting, and much more. In addition, it provides information on renewable energy (solar hot water, solar air heating, solar cooking, solar electric power, wind power, micro-hydro power, fuel cells, etc.), energy conservation, electric automobiles, and recycling.

In this new millennium, renewable energy products are increasingly viable solutions for the independent minded person. Concerns about depletions of the world's natural resources, pollution, and dependence upon foreign oil are valid reasons to look for alternative technology solutions. Providing electric power to remote homes and cabins is another reason to consider alternative energy sources. Having a backup power system in case the utility grid fails is still another reason to use renewable energy systems. Solar power systems are clean and quiet and have minimal maintenance costs - unlike fossil fuel burning backup electric generators. This website exists for concerned individuals who wish to make a positive difference in the world.

Tax Incentives

The USA federal governemnt provides tax incentives for businesses to install solar power and purchase clean fuel vehicles. Many USA states also provide income tax and other incentives for the installation of renewable electricity systems and other alternative energy systems for both businesses and residences. For example, the state of California provides numerous tax credits and even Buy Downs/Rebates.

State of Oregon Income Tax Credits

The state of Oregon provides tax credits of up to $1,500 for EACH of the following residential systems: Photovoltaic (solar electric), solar space heating, solar water heating, wind electric power, fuel cells, and geothermal energy (closed-loop geothermal systems and earth-coupled heat pumps/exchangers). Tax credits for businesses (including non-profit organizations via the Pass-through Option) are also available. Low interest loans are also available for residential and commercial owners. Some small tax credits are available for some energy conservation measures and energy efficient appliances. During the middle of 2003, the state of Oregon in partnership with the local utility companies and the Energy Trust of Oregon, began offering Rebates (Buy-Downs) of about $4/watt of peak DC power rating of solar electric panel systems! This incentive drastically reduces the cost of solar electric system installations within the state of Oregon!

Hybrid gasoline-electric vehicles (such as the Honda Insight, Honda Civic Hybrid, and Toyota Prius) qualify also qualify for a $1,500 tax credit. Alternative fueled vehicles powered by electricity, natural gas, ethanol, methanol, propane, hythane, biodiesel, gasohol, or hydrogen qualify for a $750 tax credit. Their charging or refueling systems qualify for up to an additional $750 tax credit.

Much more information about state of Oregon tax credits, including how to qualify for them, is available by contacting the Oregon Department of Energy at 1-800-221-8035 or by visiting their website at www.energy.state.or.us.
